We just entered the 39th week and are closer than ever to meeting our son. As the big day approaches, I’ve been searching for positive birth affirmations to say to my partner while she goes through the waves, the pain, and ultimately, the delivery of our baby. Birth affirmations can provide the following benefits for you and, most importantly, your partner in labor.
Benefits of Birthing Mantras
Calming Anxiety: Childbirth can be overwhelming and uncertain, but having tools like affirmations at your disposal can help reduce anxiety and create a sense of calm and control.
Boosting Confidence: Affirmations remind the birthing person that their body is capable and strong, which boosts self-confidence.
Fostering Relaxation: Labor is both a physical and mental experience—affirmations can encourage relaxation, helping the body progress through labor more efficiently.
Empowering Partners: For dads or non-birthing partners, affirmations provide a way to offer emotional support while staying focused and present.
Creating a Positive Environment: Positive affirmations can clear the room of any negativity or stress, creating a more peaceful atmosphere during a day filled with many inputs and emotions.
Mind-Body Connection: By focusing on affirmations, the mind-body connection is strengthened, which can help shift focus away from pain and promote endurance and a sense of control.
I’ve searched and compiled some phrases so I’m not just repeating, “You got this!” or “You’re so strong!” over and over. I wanted a variety of affirmations to use during labor and delivery to help my partner feel supported and motivated. Below is the list I’ve put together, along with an infographic I created for my Instagram @dad.guides if you want to download it for the big day.

Relax your body, let go, and breathe.
Trust your body; it knows what to do.

I hope this list of affirmations helps other dads and non-birthing partners out there with things to say beyond just “You got this!” and “You’re so strong!” While those phrases can be great, having a few more options can make a big difference on that special day. Leave some affirmations you will use or may have used in the comments below. Would love to hear what worked for others!
